What is Greater Kansas City Day?
Greater Kansas City Day is a fundraiser coinciding with Royals Opening Day to benefit the Rotary Youth Camp which gives disabled and disadvantaged kids the chance to have a normal camping experience as well as to raise money for other local charities. Why? It’s all about improving the lives of children. You can find out more about Greater Kansas City Day and how you can help on the Royals MLB.com website.

The Kansas City Star publishes special edition newspapers to commemorate Royals opening day, and volunteers sell them all over the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area with proceeds going to the fundraiser. When you buy a special edition newspaper on Greater Kansas City Day, you’re directly benefiting disabled and disadvantaged kids. You can also click the “Donate” button on the left-hand side of this page to make a secure donation through PayPal right now.

Volunteers in Kansas City have pitched-in on the Royals home opener for 30 years. Every year, thousands of Rotary Club volunteers and donors work together to make Greater Kansas City Day one of the largest one-day fundraisers in the metropolitan area. Millions of dollars have been raised for Kansas City area charities.

The list of Greater Kansas City Day honorary chairs includes: Muriel and Ewing Kauffman, Buck O’Neil, George Brett, Dick Vermeil, Dan and David Glass, Adele Hall and Henry Bloch. They, like so many other Kansas Citians, understand the vital mission that takes place every year on opening day. It’s not just a time to sell commemorative newspapers and garner donations, it’s a chance to change lives.
